In 1999, one year from the date of spraying, Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), the 2nd largest district in the nation, unanimously adopted the most stringent pesticide policy in the nation for schools. The policy was the first in the United States to embrace the Precautionary Principle and Parents Right to Know . This grassroots effort later led to the California Healthy Schools Act 2000 legislation. Today California Safe Schools helps others around the state with school chemical use issues and is vigilant in watch dogging the LAUSD policy implementation. California Safe Schools is a member of the School Pesticide Reform Coalition.
